Cold Specks are to release their first single on paradYse Records on the 17th of October.

Featuring the tracks “Holland’ and ‘Old Stepstone’,  the single was recorded at Monnow Valley and mixed at Sub Bubble Studios. To celebrate the release the band are playing a special show at St Pancras Old Church on the 17th of October.
The band are great friends of Sub Bubble and have frequented the studio on numerous occasions over the past year.

The bubble has been running overtime in the last few months with loads of exciting bands making waves through the industry on a multitude of levels.

Two Door Cinema Club

The guys have been busy of late with the smash hit “What You Know” with a great call and response with the crowd at Glastonbury (See below).

The Twilight Sad

The scottish band spent the best part of January in Sub Bubble Studio 1, recording and mixing the most recent album for Fat Cat Records. The Twilight Sad comprises James Graham (vocals), Andy MacFarlane, (guitar/accordion/noise), Craig Orzel (bass), and Mark Devine (drums). Forming in late 2003, the band played a couple of early shows at Glasgow’s 13th Note, creating half hour pieces of music utilising guitars, bass, drums, theremin, tape loops from films and old folk and country songs, effects pedals, toy keyboards, thumb pianos, computer games and various other ephemera.

Check them out performing a Rare Sessions showcase for UCL London with the dark sounds of “And She Would Darken the Memory”.

Young Legionnaire

Another exciting band and firm Sub Bubble favorite YL spent a considerable amount of time in Studio 1 this year. Young Legionnaire was started by Gordon Moakes (Bloc Party) and Paul Mullen (The Automatic/Yourcodenameis:milo) after meeting when YCNI:Milo were sourcing bands for their ‘Print Is Dead’ collaborations project.

Check out the new single taken from the debut album ‘Crisis Works’ set for release on the 9th of May on Wichita Recordings.

The band have been into Sub Bubble Studios couple of times now, recording in Studio 1, beating and tweaking their new numbers into shape. It’s raw and honest, inventive and challenging.

Another great band from the Stolen Recordings Stable, label head Paul Jones has also been manning the desk on this one… an accomplished producer Paul is extremely hands on with his projects and with back-up from Tobin Jones our Assistant Engineer at Sub Bubble this “dream team” looks like it will deliver more sonic bombshells for Bo Ningen.

Paul Mullen (Yourcodenameis:Milo / The Automatic) and Gordon Moakes (Bloc Party) have come together to form what is one of the most accomplished post-rock albums of the new decade. Encapsulated in their debut album; recorded and mixed at Sub Bubble Studios by Rich Jackson (Future of the Left, Mcluskey, The Chapman Family, The Automatic) it’s a true powerhouse of ideas.

With the album receiving rave reviews across the specialist music press Sub Bubble are extremely proud to have been involved in the birth of this great project.

As with all our visiting clients, Young Legionnaire had full access to our range of our inhouse-backline, in fact Paul liked the Peavey Delta Blues guitar amp so much for recording, he asked if he could keep it! After a few calls and emails to Peavey HQ they happily furnished Paul with his own Delta Blues which he is now using for the band’s live shows. We like to go the extra mile at Sub Bubble, as you can tell from this little example.

We strongly recommend you get a copy of the Young Legionnaire album and hear its awesomeness for yourself.

London(born) and Manchester (uni-fied) David’s Lyre -  is the nom de plume adopted by singer-songwriter & multi instrumentalist Paul Dixon were recently in Sub Bubble Studios to record his forthcoming album with producer Tom Fuller.  Both Dixon and Fuller have a great working chemistry and thrive on the experimentation of sonic textures using an array of vintage and modern equipment to sculpt there sound including Sub Bubbles own Analogue System RS8500 Modular Synthesiser.  The guys were an absolute pleasure to work with.  Recording drums and vocals in the indoor skate park was a truly great experience.

Paul – one of many of a long line of progressing artists to realise that the conventional man-and-guitar set-up is the embodiment of the concept of ‘dull’, and that the format is made marginally more interesting by the addition of some beats.  Dixon’s voice is a natural focal point in a set that mixes elements of Ed Harcourt and Everything Everything and Mumford & Sons with his own experimental folk-pop.  The multi-talented Mr D shows that for one still so relatively young has already started to progressively inch his way up the ladder.  The latest EP - ‘In Arms’ follows up on his debut 7″ for East City Records, and once again fuses folk influences, with unusual arrangements that encompass strings, clattering drums and bubbling electronics all topped with his strong vocal.  This EP features 4 tracks plus the Iska String Quartet’s version of “In Arms”.
